| BIOGRAPHY |
John Ehrhardt became the first big time sheep rancher in the area. He bought and sold several ranches before
purchasing 805 acres in 1876 in the East Franklin area, where he made his home, raised wheat and alfalfa, and
bred sheep and cattle. In 1865, John Ehrhardt married Caroline Hollman and raised six sons and two daughters.
One of those sons was William Ehrhardt and he was given 160 acres of the East Franklin ranch. William married
Annie Ferguson and they had four children. William and Annie purchased a "kit" home for $7,500 and
built the home on Franklin Boulevard, under heritage oak trees that are still standing today. This original
Ehrhardt Home is nestled amongst 200-year-old majestic black oak trees.
