| BIOGRAPHY |
Jean and Lyndon Hawkins, one great local dynamic duo, were Elk Grove's Citizens of the Year in 2003. Both
native Californians, Jean was raised in Northern California, where she graduated from UC Davis and did
graduate work at Sacramento State. Lyndon was born in Southern California. He earned his Bachelors Degree
at Long Beach State and his graduate degree at the University of Idaho. Jean and Lyndon moved to Elk Grove
in 1979 and have been involved in the community since their arrival.
Jean's philanthropic work includes serving as Past President of the Elk Grove Chamber of Commerce and serving
as an active contributor in the Strauss Festival, Home Field Advantage, Cosumnes CSD activities, Sheldon High
School Football Booster Club, and a Board Member for the Elk Grove Senior Center. Through her business, Valley
Oak Maytag, Jean has and continues to be an avid supporter of youth and community events. Jean chairs the Rotary
Club of Elk Grove's youth mentoring program and will become Club president in 2005.
Lyndon was instrumental in developing the integrated pest management program for the state. He also represents
the City of Elk Grove as trustee of the Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control District. When he is not
chasing bugs, Lyndon dedicates his time as President of the Elk Grove Community Food Bank Services. He has been
integral in developing outreach and fundraising events for the food bank. Lyndon and Jean have also been very
active with their church, Elk Grove United Methodist.
